Position 1: Reference Librarian, Academic Staff, Fixed Term, Full-time, 12
months appointment

Starting Date:  January 2, 1999

Responsibilities: Provide reference assistance to library users including
the use of government documents and law collections; assist users in
utilizing local and remote online catalogs, print, and electronic
information sources; participate in bibliographic instruction; assist in
general and reference collection development efforts, including
identification of reliable resources on the Internet; develop library user
guides and webpages; work evenings and weekends on a rotational basis.
Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited institution; second
advanced degree in an academic discipline; professional reference
experience; experience in bibliographic instruction; knowledge of print and
electronic information sources including the Internet; demonstrated ability
using microcomputers in a networked environment; excellent communication,
interpersonal and instructional skills; ability to work effectively as a
team member in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with reference tools in education
especially electronic resources.

Position 2: Co-ordinator of Library Technical Processing, Academic Staff,
Fixed Term full-time, 12   month appointment
Starting Date: January 2, 1999.
Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate and manage the overall operation of the
Technical Processing Unit including the supervision of the unit personnel
(8 FTE staff plus student assistants), ordering, receiving, cataloging,
processing, binding and preservation of all library materials, periodicals
help desk; serve as a member of the Library Team Leaders and play a
leadership role in policy development and in making operational
recommendations to the Director of Library Services; assist the director in
developing and implementing short-term and long-term operational goals and
objectives; assist the Director in monitoring the collection budget,
maintaining and analyzing financial and collection data; responsible for
collection management of periodicals; share some reference duties.
Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited institution; second
advanced degree in an academic discipline; three years of successful,
progressively responsible professional experience in an academic library
including at least one year of administrative or supervisory experience;
thorough knowledge of the principles of serial management and of current
and national issues in the acquisitions and processing of serials;
knowledge of technical services activities and trends; excellent
interpersonal and communication skills; experience with integrated library
systems and bibliographic utilities; hands-on experience in the utilization
of current technology for technical processing.
Compensation for both positions will be based on candidates qualifications
and experience.
       The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is a premier comprehensive
university and is one of 13 universities in the University of Wisconsin
System.  It has an enrollment of approximately 10,000 students in 42
undergraduate and 13 graduate programs in the four Colleges of Arts and
Communication, Business and Economics, Education and Letters and Sciences
with 1030 faculty, academic and classified staff members. Located in the
scenic Kettle Moraine area of southeastern Wisconsin, UW-Whitewater is a
regional cultural and resource center within convenient driving distance to
Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago.
       The Harold G. Andersen Library is a modern facility with over
430,000 volumes, 2000 periodical subscriptions, 1,000,000 microforms, 7,700
audiovisual items and 303,000 government documents, an extensive CD-ROM
LAN, and has full Internet access.  The library integrated system is
KeyNotis.  The library personnel consists of  23 professional and support
staff members.

TITLE:     Librarian I, Science and Technology Team Manager
LOCATION:  Public Services Division, McKeldin Library
CATEGORY:  Associate Staff, Full-Time, (12 Month Appointment)
SALARY:    Commensurate with experience.

ENVIRONMENT:  The University of Maryland Libraries is moving to a
team-based organization that incorporates elements of matrix
management to improve services to our users, facilitate
organizational communications, and foster an environment of shared
responsibility. RESPONSIBILITIES:   Leadership responsibility for the
Science and Technology Team composed of 10-12 team members, including
collection management librarians and reference/instruction librarians
who directly report to the team manager and in close working liaison
with subject branch librarians and other resource people, including
technical services and information technology staff.  The team
manager works directly with team members to plan, develop, and
implement ongoing activities and special projects and establish team
goals and objectives.  The team manager also contributes to broader
leadership and planning at the divisional level, shares in
reference service and collection development activities, and
coordinates and evaluates the work of the team members.  The team
manager provides general reference service and also carries a
parallel assignment as a collection management librarian or a
reference/instruction librarian for a relevant subject area(s) in the
agricultural or life sciences. Team Responsibilities:  The team is
responsible for reference services, specialized instruction, faculty
and college liaison, and collection development and management in
science and technology.  In addition, team members contribute to
Service Plus, the libraries' information and reference service, and
general user instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library
Science.  Three to five years' experience in a large academic
library; strong public service orientation as evidenced in reference,
library instruction, and materials selection experience; subject
expertise in one or more of the agricultural or life sciences;
advanced subject degree preferred; excellent oral and written
communication skills; demonstrated ability to work creatively in a
rapidly changing environment; demonstrated ability to represent the
team and the Libraries in a proactive way to faculty, departments,
and colleges; demonstrated technological competencies; demonstrated
ability to nurture an environment that foster learning,
collaboration, and teamwork; demonstrated knowledge and ability to
deal with library personnel responsibilities and issues.

BENEFITS:  22 days annual leave and 3 personal days; 15 paid
holidays; 15 days sick leave.   Health insurance and retirement
benefits (State pension or TIAA-CREF); tuition remission.
