LIBRARY SYSTEMS COORDINATOR
Cleveland State University invites applications for the position of
Library Systems Coordinator for an innovative program focusing on
information technologies to facilitate the learning, teaching and
research efforts of the University's students and faculty. The Library
Systems Coordinator manages all library systems by planning and
implementing systems projects, overseeing the installation and
maintenance of equipment and software, recommending for purchase
equipment and software, and engaging in long range planning. Reporting
to the Deputy Director, the position supervises one full-time assistant
two part-time assistants, and coordinates teams engaged in systems
support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in computer-related field (or
Bachelor's degree in another field & significant experience);
Demonstrated experience in project planning, installation and
implementation; Demonstrated experience with integrated library systems;
Working knowledge of Windows 95, LANs, CD-ROMs, and Internet/Web
technology; Technical knowledge of UNIX-based computing; Strong
interpersonal and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: MSLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited
program or master's degree in computer-related field; Experience working
in a university or library environment.
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits.
Candidates with an MSLS will be appointed to a librarian rank; others to
the professional staff.

Subject: Position Opening (NY) - Science Librarian

Position:  Science Reference Librarian (Instructor or Assistant
Professor) Department:  Library

        The City College Library is seeking a service-oriented,
innovative and enthusiastic science reference librarian willing and able
to work effectively in a demanding environment, assisting library users
in the Science/Engineering Library.

Duties:  Reports directly to the Chief of the Science/Engineering Library
and is responsible for providing reference assistance to undergraduates,
graduate and doctoral students, and full and part time faculty;  working
with faculty in collection development;  participating in bibliographic
instruction, database searching, and teaching the use of the Internet;
and performing related duties, such as supervision, training and
scheduling of hourly student employees.  Scheduling needs may require the
Science Reference Librarian to work up to two evenings per week.

Qualifications:  M.L.S. from an ALA accredited Library School is required
for appointment at the Instructor level and an additional graduate degree
in one of the Physical or Biological Sciences or Engineering is required
for appointment at the Assistant Professor level.  The successful
candidate will have at least two to three years of relevant academic
library experience, and prior supervisory experience.  An undergraduate
degree in Science or Engineering preferred.  A strong commitment to
working with a wide spectrum of patrons in an urban, multicultural
environment and a flexible approach are essential.

Salary:  Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and
experience.  Tenure track position.  Instructor: $27,454 - $44,190.
Assistant Professor: $29,931 - $52,213. Appointment effective 9/1/98.

Library Technology Team
POSITION:  Systems Librarian/Programmer

DESCRIPTION:  The Systems Librarian/Programmer provides
programming and technology support for the Vanderbilt libraries as a
member of the Library Technology Team.  The Library currently
operates an automated library system from SIRSI Corporation and is
working on developing OCLC's SiteSearch software as a unifying
interface to many information resources provided by the Library,
including SIRSI, SilverPlatter's ERL server, local SiteSearch
databases and image files, and FirstSearch; a couple of cooperative
projects with other libraries are underway which involve virtual
catalog implementations of the SiteSearch software.  The Web is the
user interface for all services. The primary function of this
position is to provide programming support for the major applications
underlying the library's Web environment.  The position works closely
with the other programmer on the team and reports to the Library
Technology Team Leader.

QUALIFICATIONS:  For appointment as a librarian, an MLS from an
accredited ALA institution is required; a library degree and/or
library automation experience is highly desirable. Experience with
UNIX, client-server technology, and Web applications is required;
java application experience is desired; Z39.50 and OCLC SiteSearch
experience is highly desirable.  The successful candidate will
demonstrate the ability to work effectively under pressure and
deadlines and will possess strong communication skills, flexibility,
and eagerness to work in a team/cooperative environment.  A
user-service philosophy and the ability to work with non-technical
library staff are important requirements for the position.

ENVIRONMENT:  Vanderbilt University consists of ten schools and
colleges with an enrollment of over 10,000.  The university is served
by the Jean and Alexander Heard Library which has ten library
operations, a collection of 2.3 million volumes and a staff of 220.
Vanderbilt is a member of the Association for Research Libraries and
SOLINET.   The library is highly automated with Novell networks in
all of the library facilities and a variety of CD-ROM and database
services in addition to its automated library system (SIRSI), ERL
server and OCLC SiteSearch applications.  The Library Technology
Team, which serves the whole library system, consists of ten
staff-three librarians (including this position), three professional
technical staff, and four technical support staff. More information
