Stephen L. Talbott has worked full-time with computers=20
since 1980 as a technical writer and software developer.=20
For the past several years Mr. Talbott has been senior=20
editor at O'Reilly & Associates, a leading publisher=20
of technical books about computers. In 1995 O'Reilly=20
published Mr. Talbott's book, The Future Does Not=20
Compute: Transcending the Machines in Our Midst.=20
This was one of the three or four books that initiated=20
the highly public and controversial reassessment of=20
networking technology, following the public's initial=20
rush to the Internet. It was named one of the "Outstanding=20
Academic Books of 1996" by the library journal, Choice,=20
and an "Outstanding Book of the Year" by UNIX Review.=20
Mr. Talbott is also the publisher of one of the=20
most respected online newsletters, called NETFUTURE,=20
focusing on technology and human responsibility and=20
is a frequent and popular public speaker on this=20
subject.
