I second the Chicago Public Library's use of ink jet printers (Joyce Latham,
CPL). They're durable, cheap to acquire (tho' ink is a bit more expensive than
ribbons), and the service is pretty good. We had a DeskJet 855 die on us, and
HP fixed it out-of-warranty for about sixty dollars plus shipping (one-way).
Interestingly, the problem was electronic, not mechanical..... We love our
DeskJets.

We are absoluted agreed, we decided to use dot matrix printers and we
are sure that is the best solution. Ink-jet or laser printers are
very expensive for that type of public service.
