The Salzburg Seminar, an international educational organization that
celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 1997, seeks a creative individual to
assume the new position of Technology Resources Coordinator. The position is
available immediately. The Seminar conducts a year-round academic program,
consisting of a variety of seminars, workshops, symposia, and conferences
developed by the Seminar's academic staff, in our facilities at Schloss
Leopoldskron in Salzburg, Austria.  Some 1,000 mid-career and senior
professionals participate annually in our programs;  Seminar alumni number
more than 18,000 from 140 countries.

The Technology Resources Coordinator will direct and oversee the integration
of technology into all of the programs of the Salzburg Seminar. An important
component of our programs, and a special focus for this position, is our new
Universities Project, which has received  a major funding commitment from
the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. The Universities Project is
designed to bring together senior officials in education from Russia, the
NIS, Europe, and North America for an ongoing series of symposia devoted to
issues of academic reform.  The integration of technology into the
Universities Project, both to facilitate the ongoing exchange among the
professionals involved and to explore the uses of technology in higher
education, is a critical aspect of the Project.

The ideal candidate for this position has 5-6 years experience in computer
systems, a solid background and experience in uses of technology in
education,  has management and supervision experience, and a strong
background in website creation and maintenance, database software, Internet
applications and experience with NT 4.0 webserver and Novell.=20

Additional desired  qualifications are teaching experience in the use of
technology in education, and an advanced degree in information
science/library science or a related degree.  We seek a  highly motivated
and self-directed team player comfortable working with individuals from
diverse geographic and linguistic backgrounds.

The Technology Resources Coordinator will be resident in Salzburg, Austria,
and housing and board are available as part of the overall compensation
package for the position. The position will report through the Director in
Salzburg to the Executive Vice President of the Seminar who is resident in
the Seminar=B4s U.S. administrative headquarters in Middlebury, Vermont. =20

Wittenberg University seeks applicants for a position of
Reference/Electronic Resources Librarian in the University Library.
This is a full-time, tenure track, faculty appointment. The successful
candidate will provide leadership in planning, implementing, and managing
the library's electronic information resources and will coordinate their
integration into the University's educational program.  Duties will
include enhancement of the library's web page and management of other
web-based, CD-ROM, and networked information sources in cooperation with
Computing Services.  Other responsibilities include reference desk
service; individual and group bibliographic instruction regarding print
and electronic resources; liaison assignment to specific academic
departments; participation in budget preparation, collection develop-
ment, and training and supervision of student staff.  Some evening and
weekend hours required.  The position reports to the Director of the
Library.

MLS from an ALA-accredited program required, along with
familiarity with electronic resources appropriate for a liberal
arts education; expertise in web-based, network, and desktop
applications; excellent communication skills; experience or interest
in teaching; and the ability to work collaboratively and meet tenure
requirements.  Experience with Windows 95/NT helpful. Competitive salary.

                        POSITION VACANCY NOTICE
                 CATALOG LIBRARIAN (Search Re-opened)

General Description: Under the direction of the Head of the
Catalog Department, and in cooperation with the
paraprofessional cataloging staff, the Catalog Librarian
prepares and maintains bibliographic records in both the local
on-line catalog and the WLN database.  As one of fifteen
librarians, the Catalog Librarian also participates in collection
development as a liaison to one or more academic
departments, serves a regular shift on the reference desk,
and participates on Library and University committees.
Librarians at Boise State enjoy full faculty status; this
position is tenure track.

Specific Responsibilities:
       -- Prepare original bibliographic records using
Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, Library of Congress Rule
Interpretations, and USMARC tagging conventions; assign
Library of Congress classification numbers and subject
headings and enter records on WLN for downloading to the
 Library's local Geac ADVANCE catalog.  Materials to be
cataloged will include serials and monographs.  Non-print
materials (compact discs and other audio-visual materials,
kits, electronic resources such as e-journals and web pages)
will likely predominate.
       -- Assign LC classification numbers to previously
cataloged materials, including state government documents.
       -- Assume responsibility for assessing and developing
the collection in one or more subject areas; work with
academic faculty to expend allocations from the acquisitions
budget for those areas; review faculty requests and selection
sources; establish and periodically re-assess WLN
Conspectus collection levels.
       -- Serve a regular shift on the Reference desk.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA
accredited graduate program in Library Science; one year
FTE experience (professional, paraprofessional or
combination) cataloging in an automated environment,
applying AACR2 and assigning LC Subject Headings and
Classification numbers; good communication skills, and the
ability to work collaboratively with both professional and
paraprofessional staff.

Preferred Qualifications: More than one year in a professional
level position doing original cataloging as noted above in an
academic library; extensive experience cataloging serials
and/or non-print formats; experience cataloging on WLN or
using the ADVANCE system; reading knowledge or better of
at least one non-English language; second graduate degree
in a subject other than Library Science.

Salary and Appointment: Minimum salary: $29,500.  Full
benefit package.  Starting date: July 1, 1998.

     An excellent opportunity exists for an individual to assume
     responsibility for developing and managing the Research Libraries site
     on the World-wide Web and home pages as well as implementing web
     technology to provide structured access to electronic content for
     on-site and remote users.  Will maintain the technical quality and
     excellence of the website, the design and facility of access to
     multi-format files and databases, including multimedia databases,
     digital collections and finding aids, electronic texts, and online
     exhibits.  Works with the directors of the four research centers to
     plan, initiate, set direction, and establish goals for web development
     and coordinates the development of web content and intranet materials.
     Provides technical advice, coordinates overall web production and
     maintenance and serves as principal liaison with the Information
     Technology Group and Web Editorial Board.

     Qualified candidates must have a well-rounded liberal arts background
     and an ALA accredited Master's of Library Science.  Demonstrated
     knowledge of HTML, SGML, document structuring techniques, Z39.50 and
     web browser technologies as well as an understanding of other aspects
     of web site creation including forms, image maps, CGI scripting,
     JavaScript and ActiveX.  Broad knowledge of digital library
     initiatives in libraries, on-line library catalog design, MARC
     formats, database design, PC applications and telecommunications
     protocols.  Ability to write and develop planning documents, budgets
     and project documentation and experience with editorial procedure and
     practice.  Strong presentation, oral and written communication skills.
