Building your leadership toolkit
An Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) Leadership
Institute, cosponsored by the ACRL New England Chapter
April 30-May 1, 1998
The Tremont Hotel, Boston
Develop your personal leadership toolkit. Gain the practical skills you
need to be a successful leader. At this institute you will:
--hone your negotiation/persuasion skills
--identify strategies for implementing and managing change
--learn how to run effective meetings
--develop techniques for motivating and managing your team
--find out how to make effective presentations
Attend this institute and take home practical strategies for effective
leadership. Limited to first 150 registrants.
Plenary presentations
Robert Wedgeworth, University Librarian at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign will address the many areas in which librarians will
need to lead, now and in the future.
Cliff Lynch, Executive Director, Coalition for Networked Information, will
address the leadership roles librarians will take both on and off campus
as technology continues to evolves.

Director, Harvard Business School Library
Building and Leading Your Team/Motivating Your Staff--Margo Crist,
Director of Libraries, University of Massachusetts
Spreading the Word: Tips for Effective Presentations--Linda Wallace,
Director, American Library Association's Public Information Office
Closing Plenary session
Leading Outside the library--A panel of presenters including Michael
Butler, Thomas Michalak, and Elaine Didier will look at how librarians can
be most effective as leaders outside the library community. Moderator:
Margo Crist

The institute will take place at the Tremont Hotel in Boston, (275 Tremont
St.) located in the heart of Boston's theater district and in the hub of
Boston's most appealing attractions and neighborhoods. A block of
rooms has been reserved for ACRL institute attendees at the special
conference rate of $169. Please make hotel reservations directly with
the Tremont and be sure to specify that you are with the ACRL institute.
