Position: Reference Librarian
Appointment: Faculty, tenure track; annual appointment.
Starting Date: July 1, 1998
Job Description: Provide reference assistance to library users including
use of government documents collections and law collection; assist users in
utilizing local/remote on-line catalogs, print and electronic information
sources; participate in bibliographic instruction; assist in general and
reference collection development efforts, including identification of
reliable resources on the Internet; develop library user guides and web
pages. This position will involve evenings and weekends on a rotational
basis.
Qualifications: M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited institution; second advanced
degree in an academic discipline required. Professional reference
experience and experience in bibliographic instruction required; experience
with business and economics reference tools, especially electronic
resources, preferred. Knowledge of print and electronic information
sources including the Internet; demonstrated ability using microcomputers
in a networked environment; excellent communication, interpersonal and
instructional skills; and the ability to work effectively as a team member
in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.
Rank and Salary: Depending on education and experience; salary competitive.
The University and the Technology & Information Resources: UW-Whitewater is
a premier four- year institution offering baccalaureate degrees in 42

Public Services Librarian
Grinnell College Libraries
Entry-level professional position for a person with a strong public service
commitment, a commitment to information literacy education and library
resources in electronic forms. Initial appointment will be at the
assistant professor rank, with a two-year, renewable contract. The
position is currently funded for four years, commencing with 1998/99
academic year.
Under the terms of a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the
successful candidate will join six other members of the library faculty in
providing an enhanced level of instruction in information literacy and
promoting awareness of electronic resources to support classroom
instruction. Requires: a graduate degree in librarianship from an
ALA-accredited institution; good written and oral communication skills;
strong self-motivation; and ability to be effective and tactful in meeting
all elements of a campus community that makes heavy demands on library
services. Experience with electronic databases, Internet search engines,
web-page construction, etc.
