If it is typical I'd like to know what problems others are/have faced and
how they have dealt with the problems. I'm sure Peter's observation about
incompatible hardware/software in continuing public libraries is true but
I noticed the problem at a brand new public library with completely new
building, infrastructure, hardware, software and OPAC.

I think the problem is obviously money related but training and continued
training may be the biggest problem. The change is constant.

Again, I'd like to talk to folks who involved in situations which have/had
problems. I am not looking for sysop or the webmaster or the sysadmin only
but would like to talk to front line librarians who have to deal with
problem technology and patron problems at the same time. I have no
intention of using real names in the article unless folks want their names
and the name of their library used. The article will be for the Library
Journal later in the year. Usually the Library Journal prints the articles
about how everything is going fine. I pitched the idea that all may not be
fine in paradise -- excuse me Hawaii!. I think it would be an interesting
article and might help some folks to hear that they are not alone. Email
or call me directly to talk. The final article in LJ will only be part of
what I write so I'll post all the material sans identification directly to
Pacs-L for others to read and comment on.

I also have no problem with folks discussing the issue on Pacs-L. I think
best in a group 8-)

Thoughts?
