Two years ago, in January 1996, I posted a note to a number
of lists asking for examples of methods that library consortia
use to calculate membership fees or assessments. I wasn't so
much concerned with actual dollar amounts as I was with the
criteria that are used to determine the fees. I used the information
I obtained in a 3/5/96 report to the ILCSO Assessment
Methodology Task Force.
I received useful replies from 12 groups:
Electronic Library Network (BC)
CIC
CARL
Five Colleges Consortium
U of Maryland System
Washington Research Library Consortium
SWITCH Consortium
South Central Research Library Council
LEIAN/NMCAL
Old Colony Library Network
Black Gold Library System
Tampa Bay Library Consortium
I am now in the process of updating the report I wrote in
March of 1996. If you represent one of the above consortia,
and have changed (or will shortly change) how you divide
up consortial costs, drop me a note and describe the new
method. If your consortium or group is NOT represented
on the above list, I'd be interested in getting some examples
of your consortial fee calculation models.
Thanks in advance!
