REFERENCE/MICROCOMPUTER SERVICES LIBRARIAN
The Briscoe Library of The University of Texas Health Science Center
at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) has an opening for a full time
Reference/Microcomputer
Services Librarian (Librarian I).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties of this position include
providing
reference assistance and instructing users on library databases, the
Internet,
and computer assisted instruction programs. The Librarian will also
assist
the Microcomputer Services Coordinator with staff scheduling,
development of
user policies, installing computer software, troubleshooting hardware
and software,
and other Library Computer Center projects as needed. Other
responsibilities include
participation in library orientation and instruction programs and the
development of
instructional and promotional materials.
ABOUT THE LIBRARY: Located in San Antonio on the outskirts of the Texas
Hill Country,
the UTHSCSA includes five Schools - Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing,
Graduate Biomedical
Sciences, and Allied Health. The Library provides services and access
to biomedical
information that support the teaching, research, and patient care needs
of
Health Science Center students, faculty and staff as well as health care
professionals
throughout South Texas. The Library's collection includes more than
210,000
book and journal volumes, 2500 computer software and media programs, and
2000
current journal subscriptions. The Library is staffed by 20 librarians
and
approximately 40 support staff.
HOURS: The tentative schedule for this position is Sunday through
Thursday,
10 a.m. to 7 p.m. ( Note: Work schedule may vary dependent on need.)
REQUIREMENTS: an M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. from an ALA accredited program;
coursework in library reference and computer science and/or applicable
experience
in a library or educational computing environment desirable;
familiarity with PC/Macintosh programs, Windows95, MS Office, and
Internet;
experience using the MEDLINE database; strong public service orientation
and
excellent oral and written communication skills.
SALARY: $28,000 per annum; excellent retirement options, health,
dental,
paid vacation & sick leave, tax sheltered annuity option
