Position:       Art & Architecture Slide Librarian (Assistant Professor)
Department:     Library

Description: The City College Library is seeking a service-oriented,
innovative and enthusiastic visual resources specialist willing and able
to work effectively in a demanding environment, to develop digital access
to visual resources, and to conduct professional development and training
workshops for the Art Department, the School of Architecture and the
campus community.

Duties: Reports to the Chief Librarian and is responsible for managing and
staffing the two analog slide collections of the Art Department and the
School of Architecture, in consultation with those units; for training and
scheduling hourly personnel; for providing reference services and research
assistance to users in support of the curriculum and student and faculty
scholarship in art and architecture; providing formal as well as tutorial
instruction in the use and critical evaluation of information resources
and systems including the World Wide Web; participating in the creation of
a digital Image Center incorporating cutting-edge imaging technology and
technology-based information systems; and performing collection
development and maintenance duties for visual resources.

Qualifications: ALA accredited M.L.S. and a master's degree in
an appropriate subject discipline such as art or architectural history.
Minimum of three years experience working in a visual resources
collection. Working knowledge of major online information services,
scanning and imaging systems, multimedia software, Mac, HTML, Windows
applications and Internet structure and access. Ability to assess and
integrate appropriate complex and rapidly evolving information
technologies into the collections and instructional program. Desired:
Copy photography experience and familiarity with installation of displays
or exhibits and standard museum methods (basic preservation, proper
storage, inventory control of works of art).

Salary: $29,931 - $52,213, commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Appointment effective 2/1/98.
