Diablo Valley College (community college of 20,000 students) is planning
to set up an electronic information commons within the reference
area. There will probably be 10-15 pc's used for reference (IAC =
databases,
Internet) and also for small group instruction. We would appreciate
any suggestions or cautions from libraries that have implemented
something like this.
1. If you set up a similar "lab" area in reference, how did you arrange
the computer tables--what configuration?
2. How well have the reference librarians been able to handle the
workload?
3. What percentage of your pc's have sound/multi-media capabilities?
Do you provide headsets and how do you keep them clean?
4. Do you have additional pc's in the general reference area =
