The Public Library of Des Moines (Iowa) is in the process of selecting a
new automation system. We would like to begin putting together a
written plan for training the staff and public in the use of the new
system we choose. Some of the issues we wish to address are: defining
specific training needed from the vendor, how to best coordinate timing
of training with system implementation, staff performance objectives by
position, customer service issues, need for developing written and
online documentation to tie vendor documentation in with our policies
and procedures, methods of evaluating success of training and assessing
need for further training, means of providing support and follow-up
training after the initial training is over, ongoing training for new
staff.

We would be interested in hearing how other libraries have planned for
automation training and would be especially interested in receiving
copies of such plans.

This message has been cross-posted to Publib.
