My last comments, and then I shut up. I never pretended to be objective.
What would be the value of that? As for Suzanne's suggestion, there is
room for her (or someone else) to write such a column. I still say my
cup's half-full, and though the Internet can certainly splinter, it can
also bring people together. The finest example someone shared with me was
the presence of religious communities within denominations; Episcopalians
share with one another online, for example, in a way that we usually do not
in our congregational lives, and this sharing takes place across the
boundaries that cause us to have our various "pew ghettoes" in traditional
worship.
The truth is, of course, whether my column will be interesting has less to
do with the stand I take than with how well I write it and what the reader
is looking for.
