VIRGINIA BEACH CAMPUS LIBRARIAN
RESPONSIBILITIES: This new position reports to the Head, Access
Services Department. Develops, implements, and manages library
services for the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center, scheduled to
open Fall 1998. This position is responsible for planning and
implementing programs for this new Center, including providing
support services such as reserves and document delivery, establishing
work relationships with Center administration, faculty, and staff as
well as main library staff; and developing the electronic resources
needed to support the Center's curriculum. The position will provide
reference services to Center students, develop and carry out an
instructional program centered on electronic resources and services,
and will carry out systems and digital tasks such as equipment
maintenance or participation in web page development. The position
will supervise hourly employees such as student assistants as they
become available. Weekend and evening hours as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: An ALA accredited library science degree; excellent
teaching skills, verbal and written communication skills; experience
in effective team/project management; ability to related in a tactful,
effective manner to faculty, staff, and students; experience in
working with information technology; understanding of and commitment
to the value of distance education; ability to work independently.
Preferred: successful project management experience; supervisory
experience; program development experience; program implementation
experience; some professional library experience
Candidates will be asked to give a 10-15 minute presentation on a
relevant topic.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: $29,000. Good benefits
LIBRARY: Overall library staff of 25 librarians and 46 support staff
serve campus community and significant off-campus programs with
collections of 700,000 volumes and 6,500 current subscriptions. A
building expansion of 76,000 sf is in progress. Library uses
Innovative Interfaces.

DIGITAL SERVICES COORDINATOR
RESPONSIBILITIES: ODU seeks a motivated and energetic individual who
can play a key role in introducing technology-based library resources
to the university and its classrooms. Reporting to the head of
Reference and Research Services, this new position will coordinate new
digital services for the library, including managing a new Digital
Services Center; introducing, promoting, and marketing
technology-based resources; developing and implementing user training
programs for the introduction of new technologies; and collecting and
analyzing data to expand information about services issues. The
coordinator will serve as a member of the Digital Library Initiatives
Team, build and maintain partnerships with appropriate university and
professional groups such as VIVA and the Office of Distance Learning
and Extended Education, will be responsible for collaborating with
faculty in integrating library information technology and resources
into the university's teaching programs on and off campus, and will be
responsible for developing and providing electronic services for
library users with special needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: An ALA accredited library science Masters degree; minimum
of 3 years professional experience; excellent teaching and
verbal/written communication skills; demonstrated successful
team/project management; broad experience with use and development of
information technology; experience in working with digital
technologies; creative thinking and problem solving skills; and
ability to interact effectively with staff, colleagues, and library
users.
Preferred: HTML, SGML, TEI experience; supervisory
experience; some UNIX knowledge
