OCLC regional affiliate network in downtown Washington seeks
bright, energetic professional with strong commitment to
customer service. Working familiarity with PC hardware and
software troubleshooting, comfort with LAN technology, and
strong written and oral communications skills a must. Emphasis
on providing ongoing user support in the areas of OCLC software,
hardwoare and telecommunications, ideally with ability to support
cataloging as well. Varied duties, with some flexibility to
tailor job to capitalize on candidate's strengths. Position
involves working with other professionals to provide ongoing
support to ca. 300 libraries using OCLC services, and may
include training members on OCLC software, assisting in Web page
maintenance, writing articles on user support issues, organizing
user meetings, occassional travel and lots more. We promise you

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON
DIRECTOR, GRADUATE SCHOOL OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE
The University of Washington, Seattle, seeks an energetic and creative
Director who can provide transformative leadership for its Graduate School
of Library and Information Science. Unique opportunities are provided by
several faculty vacancies; partnerships with strong UW entities such as
the Libraries, the Office of Computing and Communications, and various
academic departments; proximity to the nation's most vibrant information
technology industry; a key regional role in library and information
science; and strong support from the institution for reshaping the School.
The successful candidate must understand the changing role of
librarians and libraries in society, and the changing nature of
information management and use. He or she should be willing to
think flexibly and creatively about these changes and possess the ability
to describe and pursue a vision and chart a path for transforming the
curriculum and the School to a position of national prominence in these
areas.
A Ph.D. in an appropriate area and research and teaching accomplishments
appropriate to appointment at the full professor level are also required.
Candidates must demonstrate a record of establishing cooperative
relationships with campus departments and with industry, libraries, and
other information organizations beyond the campus; a successful record of
fund raising; a strong commitment to working with students; and a proven
ability to lead a diverse group of faculty.

We are currently seeking an experienced manager to join our Collections &
Technical Services Division as Section Manager of Collections & Resource
Sharing. This opportunity is located at our Dublin, Ohio headquarters, a
suburb of Columbus.
This motivated candidate will oversee strategic plans, short- and long-term.
Direct daily operation of section which includes product management of OCLC
collections and resource sharing services, online and offline and
microbased products. Direct staff in the implementation and introduction of
new and enhanced products and services, coordinating with other OCLC staff
as required. Plan the staff priority schedules and all related activities
to utilize effective use of resources assuring effective response to staff
and user needs. Provide Department Manager with information associated with
products, prepares reports, meeting agenda, budget information, as required.
Identify monitor and resolve problem areas. Participate in the review of
documentation for OCLC products and services, as appropriate. Work as
Product Manager on OCLC Enhancements and other projects as assigned.
Provide marketing support by attending national and state meetings, OCLC
network meetings, making specific presentations, acting as liaison with
product and format specific user groups and representing OCLC on specific
national and international level committees. Coordinate Resource Sharing
Advisory Committee (RSAC) meetings and participate in others as assigned.
Requires an MLS from accredited library school; 6-10 years of experience in
an OCLC library or other experience relevant to the position; demonstrated
expertise in the OCLC services; minimum of four years experience
coordination and direction projects; expertise supervising staff activities.
Experience in product management at OCLC or network or other library
automation vendor desirable. Knowledge of principles of library automation,
especially as applied to on-line catalogs; principles and practices of
cataloging and classification and ILL and collection management activities;
knowledge of microcomputer software and of local systems functions and
interface capabilities desirable. Demonstrated verbal and written
communication skills are essential. Required ability to work independently
with little supervision.
