"Whats Up with Information Competency in California?"
The program will bring together people who will describe the current
status of programs/projects/initiatives in California community colleges,
the CSUs and the UCs related to the topic of information competency.
The focus will be on how to incorporate information competency into the
curriculum of community colleges as a component of student success.
There will also be a short meeting to discuss the organizational process
for the new Community College Interest Group (Northern California) of
CARL.

"SIC Transit, Hello NAICS! Creating New Pathways to Industrial
Classification"
In 1997, the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) will
replace the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) as the new standard
to describe business establishments and industries. The system will be
used by Canada and Mexico as well as the United States for statistical
compilations.
What are the differences between the NAICS and SIC codes? What is the
timeline for development? How will this affect commercial publishers that
use SIC codes? What implications does the transition have for business
research? The program will also include a commercial representative using
the codes from a customer perspective (to be announced).
