DRAFT - REFERENCE BIBLIOGRAPHIC INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN
The Mary Couts Burnett Library of Texas Christian University is seeking
a creative, dynamic Reference/Bibliographic Instruction Librarian. This
position is responsible for general reference at the public service desk
(including some nights and weekends); for coordinating planning,
promotion and development of the library instructional program; and for
promoting library use skills to all groups of the University community.
The successful candidate will work with faculty and other reference
librarians to design and evaluate instructional programs to support
curricular needs. All reference librarians have collection development
responsibilities and serve on library committees. Requirements: MLS
from an ALA accredited library school; excellent written and oral
communications skills; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to
organize and implement programs. Desired experience: Two years of
previous work experience in academic libraries, teaching experience, and

Temporary Position Vacant (Maternity Leave - July 1997 to February
1998) MANAGER, SYSTEMS & TECHNOLOGY (Headquarters)
North Vancouver District Public Library is a medium-sized suburban library
with 3 branches serving the residents of the District of North Vancouver; a
community of 82,000. NVDPL has a Dynix automated system, Internet services,
and networked CD-ROM workstations within individual branches; and continues to
implement new information technologies and programs which will better serve
our patrons.
The Library is looking for a Manager of Systems & Technology for a temporary
(seven-month maternity leave) term. As well as responsibility for the
Library's automated environment, this position is part of the senior
Management Committee.
DUTIES: Reporting to the Chief Librarian, the Manager of Systems & Technology
is responsible for the ongoing operation of the library automation system;
co-ordination and support of technological services; including system
troubleshooting and technical support for library microcomputer, Internet, and
CD-ROM based applications;consultation with staff and service representatives;
selected documentation preparation; co-ordination of systems support and
training for staff; report generation; and serves as primary consultant to
management in matters of automated systems. One full-time Systems Support
Technician reports to this position.
QUALIFICATIONS: A degree from an accredited library school with experience
with integrated library systems (preferably Dynix), electronic information
resources and microcomputers is required. Internet system administration
skills, as well as demonstrated training and communication skills are
necessary. Any of the following qualitifications would be highly desirable:
knowledge of UNIX, Windows, CD-ROMS, LAN's/WAN's, Internet security, and
experience in the development and delivery of end user training
modules/programs.
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week
SALARY RANGE: Bi-weekly $1,740-$2,089

Director. University Libraries Media Services, University Libraries is
seeking candidates for the position of Director of University Libraries
Media Services, a non-tenure faculty position. Provides leadership for all
aspects of library multimedia services including effective management of all
aspects of media services: maintenance of non-print materials, supervision
of a networked lab, circulation/distribution of materials, supervision of
four staff positions and student assistants. Works with the Libraries
Instructional Coordinator to develop, integrate, and assess appropriate
instructional technologies in the Libraries' instruction and outreach
programs. Servces as Co-Director of New Media Center (http://nmc.vt.edu/).
Position reports to the Head of User Services and works closely with other
Information Systems staff, particularly Educational Technologies and
Administrative Information Systems.
The identification and implementation of new technologies, such as
interactive, multimedia instruction, multimedia tutorials, and assisting
faculty and students with the use and integration of multimedia for teaching
and learning is a key component of this position. Works closely with the
Educational Technologies Division of the University's Media Services.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, masters preferred in educational
technology, educational computing or informational sciences. Knowledge,
development, and use of various media-based content delivery technologies
including the Internet; teaching experience, and team, communication, and
assessment skills are required. Familiarity with academic library operations
and services is preferred. Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, and
implement effective programs and services. Some night and weekend work may
be required. Finalists invited for interview must demonstrate communication
and teaching skills by presenting a sample media/technology presentation to
library faculty and staff and other members of the university community.
Salary: Twelve-month professional, faculty appointment at the rank of
lecturer. Minimum academic salary for the University Libraries is $28,000.
Salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and credentials.
