AUTOMATION AND TECHNICAL SERVICES COORDINATOR

The Dauphin County Library System (DCLS), Harrisburg, PA, is seeking an
Automation and Technical Services Coordinator.  DCLS serves a population of
210,151 through a main library and eight branches.  Responsible for management
of the Ameritech (Dynix) integrated online system, local area networks,
Internet access, CD-Rom applications, telecommunications and other automated
resources; directs the investigation and resolution of hardware and software
problems, and acts as liasion with automation vendors.  Supervises two computer
technicians and Assistant Automation Coordinator.  The Automation and Technical
Services Coordinator will be responsible for leading DCLS in the implementation
of its next generation of integrated automation to get underway before the
close of 1997.  Reports to the Executive Director, and is part of the senior
management team.  Candidates must have MLS and 3-5 years demonstrated
experience with library automation and current computer technology, or BS in
Computer Science or related field with 3-5 years experience and the
demonstrated ability to quickly learn specialized applications.  Send resume,

New, full-time tenure track position.

MAIN DUTIES:  Coordinate, develop, install, maintain, trouble-shoot, and
evaluate new library automated services, systems, LANs, WWW and servers.
Train
staff hereon.  Work with library computer needs committee on new products,
services, policies, documentation.  Liaison to campus computer center,
other CSU systems librarians.  Use III, OCLC, FRS, and client server systems.

SUPERVISOR:  Duties as assigned by library director; limited public desk duty
for familiarity with needs.

QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from ALA-accredited library school, 3 years professional
library experience including 2 years technical experience on library
automated
systems.

DESIRED:  Formal automation courses or certificate therein.
