The Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) seeks
an editor for the "LITA Newsletter" for a three year term

The LITA Newsletter has historically been published quarterly and
is the official newsletter of the Association. It is currently
undergoing transition and will retain a paper presence as an
insert in LITA's scholarly refereed journal "Information

as part of the LITA Website where it will retain an independent
presence.

includes the gathering of material from contributors and working
with LITA committees, interest groups and other entities to
obtain copy for the publication.

The editor will work with desktop publishing, word processing and
HTML tools to create a camera-ready version of the printed
newsletter and to update the LITA Newsletter Website (working in
conjunction with the LITA webmasters) with all Newsletter related
materials in HTML format.

The editor will work with the LITA Publications Committee, LITA
staff and others on the implementation and use of new
technologies for the acquisition and distribution of material.

National conferences to chair the LITA Newsletter editorial board
meetings and work with others. Must be able to attend the LITA
Publications Committee and work with other LITA groups as
necessary.

Skill with desktop publishing (e.g. PageMaker or Ventura) or
alternatively skill with a word processing package capable of
setting up style templates, flowing text, and handling images).
Skills must include the handling of both texts and photographs
(either paper or digitized).

Ability to receive text via Internet email and translate it into
flowable word processed text.

Working knowledge of HTML and the ability to produce copy
properly tagged for the LITA Website.

Good text editing skills, willingness to work with LITA staff and
contributors to modify text content.

Ability to produce camera-ready paper copy at a resolution of at
least 600 dpi.

Ability to pay for shipping camera-ready copy to ALA Production
Services.

Ability to communicate regularly with LITA staff and to solicit
information from members.

Ability to meet publication deadlines four times per year with
tight deadlines around post-MidWinter and pre-Annual issues.

BENEFITS

Although there is no pay associated with this position, a
complimentary "press" registration for both ALA Annual and ALA
MidWinter is provided. Some reimbursement of expenses for Annual
and MidWinter conferences is also provided.

                           APPLICATIONS

Interested parties should submit a letter of application; a
resume; names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of
three references; and examples of prior work (or bibliographic
