----------------------------Original message----------------------------
To our public access colleagues:

The staff of the Interlibrary Loan Department in the University Libraries
at Virginia Tech is pleased to announce the implementation of ILLiad
(InterLibrary Loan Internet Accessible Database).

ILLiad manages all aspects of interlibrary loan borrowing at Virginia Tech.

ILLiad enables faculty, staff and students at Virginia Tech to request
items through interlibrary loan using a Web-based form.

In addition, ILLiad enables the staff of the library to process those
requests in a paperless environment that is interfaced with the OCLC ILL
system.

At any time, a requester can review the status of requests in process,
cancel those requests online, renew outstanding loans, and review all past
requests.

Automatic e-mail notification to customers occurs at the moment a borrowed
book or photocopy is received in the system. Subsequent transactions,
including customer checkout and return of borrowed books, occur through
barcode scanning of a transaction slip printed by ILLiad as part of the
receiving process. OCLC statuses are updated programmatically by ILLiad.

ILLiad enables Interlibrary Loan customers to generate reports about the
performance of the Interlibrary Loan service. In real-time from the live
database, anyone may produce up-to-the-minute reports about
turn-around-time for requests, most requested journals, and cumulative
percentage of requests delivered within a particular number of days.

To learn more about ILLiad, you are invited to visit Virginia Tech's
Interlibrary Loan home page at:

http://www.ill.vt.edu/

While viewing the public face of ILLiad, learn for yourself how long it
takes to get an interlibrary loan at Virginia Tech. We would be interested
in how our elapsed time to obtain an item compares with that at other
libraries.

Detailed technical information about ILLiad is available from the "ILLiad
Features" selection on several of the ILL menus.
