----------------------------Original message----------------------------

I've placed the "Explorer" hypertext system into the LIBSOFT ftp
directory maintained by Gord Nickerson at the University of Western
    Ontario.

Yes, it's yet another "how to do the Internet good" electric library.
But it ain't the usual summary or bibliography approach; those really
tend to follow a librarian's "where to find out more" orientation.
There is a tiny bit of that kind of reference information included.
But, overall, I've compiled full text of really useful source
information. I've assembled many of the useful text files, email
messages, ftp sites and sample directories, etc., that helped me to
achieve a decent level of Internet skills.

My idea was that I might save a beginning Internet explorer the 2-1/2
years that I spent in picking this stuff up in bits & pieces. I hope it
    is of use.

Available for anonymous FTP at hydra.uwo.ca in directory libsoft. (If
you're really a beginner, ask someone for help and start your hands-on
    learning.)

[Here follows a bit of description and installation instructions]

                        THE INTERNET EXPLORER'S TOOLKIT
                  ------------------------------------------
                           Compiled by Ernest Perez
                                Supported by
                     Access Information Associates, Inc.

System "The Internet Explorer's Toolkit" is a hypertext system
Description containing a collection of useful text files about using the
Internet. It is designed for a professional librarian user, and
is a "basic toolkit" for getting up to speed fast in network
skills and specialized knowledge. It also contains a copy of
PSILink, a shareware program and commercial online service
providing economical dialup access to the Internet. This gives
network access to the many potential users who do NOT have
access through an "Internet node" computer.

Component The full toolkit consists of two zipped (compressed) files: 1)
files EXPLORER.ZIP and 2) PSILINK.ZIP. I have split the system into
two parts, due to size constraints, and because many users may
not need the PSILink program contained in the second named file.
If this is the case, they need not download or otherwise obtain
that second file, about 380K in size.

EXPLORER.ZIP EXPLORER.ZIP contains a hypertext runtime program and the full
Contents text contents of the system. It runs completely independently of
the second zipped file. It is approximately 245K in size.

PSILINK.ZIP PSILINK.ZIP contains a compressed version of the shareware
Contents copyrighted PSILink program, distributed by Performance Systems
International, Inc. This program allows users to direct dial
into the Internet by local call in over 150 U.S. cities. PSILink
service is a commercial service, priced at levels with different
grades of service and modem speed levels. Information about the
service, telephone numbers, and installation instructions for
the shareware program are included in the EXPLORER.ZIP hypertext
              system.

Installation To install the EXPLORER system, create a subdirectory on your
hard disk. You must use the PKUNZIP utility program to "unzip"
the file, and extract component files. You can do this by
insuring that PKUNZIP.EXE is in your command path, changing to
the new subdirectory, and using the command to uncompress the
              files.

If the zipped file is itself in the new subdirectory, simply
              enter -
                  pkunzip explorer

If the zipped file is somewhere else, preface it with the
appropriate drive and/or path location. For example, if it's on
              a floppy in Drive A:, enter -
                  pkunzip a:explorer

If pkunzip is also on the floppy, use the drive letter in front
of that command. For example, if both programs are on drive b:,
              enter -
                  b:pkunzip b:explorer

Setup Configure the hypertext program to run on monochrome or color
monitors by entering BW or COLOR, respectively.

Running Start the program by entering HYPLUS. It's self-explanatory,
the honest! Brief online help is available at nearly all points by
program using the F1 key. and there are simple instructional screens for
              all important commands.
