Dear Colleagues:
The Cleveland Public Library--one of the largest public research
libraries in the United States--is expanding and renovating its Main
Library complex. The project includes the construction of the new Louis
Stokes Wing, the renovation of the Main Library, and the renovation and
expansion of the Eastman Reading Garden. On April 11, 12, and 13, 1997,
the Library will celebrate the dedication of the Louis Stokes Wing,
another milestone in the Library's 128-year history. The new 10-story,
state of the art addition will allow us to better serve our community.
We would be greatly honored if you would join us via the Internet with
messages of good wishes and congratulations acknowledging the dedication
of our new wing. The idea is to use the Internet for this communication
dramatizing the advances in technology that allows Cleveland citizens to
be in touch with the world through the library.
We will use your message throughout our Dedication Week--sharing your
good wishes to the Cleveland Public Library with our community.
We would like to have your message no longer than one complete web page
with any graphics you'd like, or e-mail message. We need to have your
responses no later than April 4th.
On the evening of Friday, April 11, 1997, the Library will host a gala
tribute to United States Congressman Louis Stokes, one of our city's
most illustrious sons, and for whom the new wing is named.
The formal dedication of the wing will be held on Saturday, April 12 at
11:00 a.m. The public is invited to join us for the cutting of a
virtual ribbon with scores of activities throughout the day
and on Sunday.

This is a very exciting occasion for the Cleveland Public Library and
the citizens of our community. Your participation will add to our
