REFERENCE LIBRARIAN
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Technology &
Information Resources is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position
of Reference Librarian. This is an annual appointment; faculty/tenure
track, or academic staff. The position will be available on July 1, 1997.
Job Description: Provide reference assistance to library users including
government documents and law collections; assist in utilizing local and
remote on-line catalogs, print/electronic resources; participate in
bibliographic instruction; assist in general and reference collection
development efforts, including electronic resources; develop library user
guides and web pages. Schedule includes evening and weekend hours on
rotational basis.
Qualifications: MLS from ALA-accredited institution; second advanced degree
in academic discipline required for tenure track. Experience with business
and economics reference tools, especially electronic resources; experience
in bibliographic instruction; professional reference experience. Knowledge
of print and electronic resources, including Internet; demonstrated ability
with microcomputers in a networked environment; excellent communication,
interpersonal and instructional skills; and ability to work effectively as a
team member in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.
Rank and Salary: Depending on qualifications and experience; salary competitive.
The University and the Technology & Information Resources: UW-Whitewater
offers baccalaureate degrees in 42 fields and graduate degrees in select
areas. The University has a student enrollment of approximately 10,400 and
faculty/academic staff of 600. It is located 45 miles from Madison, 50
miles from Milwaukee, and 90 miles from Chicago with easy access to
cultural, educational and recreational activities. The Technology &
Information Resources provides the university community with services in
administrative and academic computing, telecommunications and networking,
instructional technology, and library resources.

TITLE: Business Information Services Librarian
Kilmer Area Library
RESPONSIBILITIES: Select materials to support the business curriculum, working
closely with the School of Business faculty and the business specialists in the
Newark and Camden campus libraries. Serve as liaison to the School of Business
faculty. Provide instruction and training in business information services and
resources for reference staff. Participate in the user education program,
development and maintenance of Web pages, and reference services, including
weekends and evenings. Research, publication, and involvement in professional
associations are expected.
QUALIFICATIONS: An ALA accredited MLS degree and three years professional
experience required; MBA or three years experience in providing business
information services highly desirable; strong oral and written communication
skills; ability to work independently, as well as in a collegial and team-based
environment; knowledge and experience with electronic resources and information
technology, including computer networks, Internet, HTML, and Netscape;
commitment to user services; experience in teaching or training.
SALARY: Dependent upon experience and qualifications with a minimum of $39,184
for a Librarian III tenure track appointment.
STATUS/BENEFITS: Faculty status, calendar year appointment, TIAA/CREF
pension, life/health insurance, prescription drug, dental and eyeglass plans,
tuition remission, one month vacation.
