     "Using Geospatial Remote-Sensing Data in Science Research, Libraries
     and Education"

     Michael Keeler of ECOlogic Corporation will be making a presentation
     focusing on the Earth System Science Community (ESSC)

     The Earth System Science Community (ESSC) includes librarians,
     educators, students and scientists. The ESSC is refining an
     investigation-oriented Earth system science curriculum which enables
     librarians, educators, high school and university students to research
     the Earth system using Earth observation data and information over the
     Internet. The Earth system science curriculum is based on NASA's
     strategy for the Earth Observing System and Mission to Planet Earth,
     and numerous NASA online educational resources. Syllabus, project
     descriptions for student investigation, which are supported by
     teaching resources, test questions, activities, tutorials, and online
     access to data are provided via the Internet.

     The ESSC and the general public are using our data services to locate,
     visualize and analyze Earth science data in their research of the
     Earth system. The purpose of the ESV is to enable analysis and
     intercomparison of many Earth system parameters using a variet of plot
     types. The site includes a tutorial and example cases. The ESV enables
     ad hoc queries and automated visualization of 2.5 degree x 2.5 degree
     global data, enabling intercomparison of 12 parameters.

     The discussion will address the use of geospatial data in libraries
     and the future use of earth science data in high school and university
     research and education.


     We will have a business meeting after the presentation and
     question-answer session.  We still need a secretary if anyone is
     interested in the position.  I look forward to seeing you in
     Washington.
