Library Associate in SYSTEMS

Ehrman Medical Library
New York University Medical Center

The Ehrman Medical Library is recruiting for a Library
Associate in Systems.  This will be a 2 year position which
is intended to provide intensive library systems experience
for a person beginning a career as systems librarian.

The library currently maintains over 100 computers in
support of educational computing, library public access
computing and staff computing. It is in the forefront of the
provision of services in materials in electronic format, and
is involved in development of new uses for  the World Wide
Web in medical librarianship.

NYU Medical Center is a nationally recognized leader in
health care, research, and education. It provides excellent
health and educational benefits.

Reports to the Head of the Library Medical Informatics
Group. Minimum Salary $33,500.

Works as a team member to help manage and coordinate the
Library=D5s computer systems, including Hippocrates medical
education programs; management of the library=D5s Novell,
ethernet and Apple Share networks; the Library=D5s on-line
database search systems and integrated library systems.

Also helps maintain all staff computing and peripherals,
including  MAC, IBM, and UNIX platforms and a variety of
printers and scanners for e-mail, file-sharing, etc. Duties
include trouble-shooting and regular back-ups; works with
library staff and medical school faculty. There is
opportunity to  work on special projects, and committees
with new developments and techniques, such as the WWW.

Requirements: Accredited MLS in progress or already in hand,
with course work in computer or related sciences, or
equivalent experience. Experience with networking, MAC and
DOS OS=D5s, UNIX.  Expertise in one of the areas. Good
communications and problem solving skills and able to work
in a team environment.

College Center for Library Automation (CCLA) is seeking an individual
with initiative and commitment to quality service to join the team
providing LINCC, Library Information Network for Community Colleges.
CCLA provides LINCC as a statewide service for the 28 Florida community
colleges and their 60 associated libraries, using DRA software.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS: Designs programs and materials to train users in the
LINCC system; conducts training and informational programs; provides
ongoing support for LINCC participants; serves as staff resource person
in collection access management; acts as team leader or member for
implementation of new LINCC services and products; participates in
organization-wide planning activities.

TRAINING/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: ALA-accredited MLS degree and two years
professional library-related experience in public services, circulation,
interlibrary loan, or audiovisual media services. One year experience
with a local library automated system; knowledge of DRA software is
desirable.  Experience in developing and presenting education or training
activities.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Awareness of current trends in information technology
and its impact on library access services. Ability to develop training
programs and user aids. Ability to train, teach, and provide
presentations in a variety of settings. Ability to communicate
effectively verbally and in writing; work with users of varying technical
expertise; travel to user sites at statewide locations. Ability to
collaborate effectively within a dynamic team environment. Ability to use
personal computers.

SALARY: Minimum salary $35,000 annually, commensurable to training and
experience.

PREFERENCE:  Preference in the initial appointment will be given to
veterans and spouses who are eligible under the Veterans' Preference
Law.
