I think extended Refer format would be great, but that's just because
EndNote reads it :-)

Another alternative is the Tag format being devised by the University of
California's Division of Library Automation.  It includes mapping from
MARC records for books and other materials, which would be convenient to
have set up.  Of course, I'm biased because our TagLink will read that
one too.
