Metronet is a multi-type library organization serving academic,
public, and special libraries in the Minneapolis/St. Paul
metropolitan area.
Metroline is a bulletin board I run for Metronet. It can be reached
at (612) 224-8086 - it is not on the internet. All are welcome to
call the BBS - it's free but the phone call may not be. Please call
evenings or weekends if you are outside the Twin Cities.
A Guide to Internet/Bitnet is a guide to some basic stuff that the
novice internet user might be interested in, such as, VAX mail,
special interest group lists, FTP, internet freenets/bbs, and library
catalogs that can be reached using telnet.
Network News is a newsletter that I send out about once a month as
an update to the guide. The newsletter focuses on the"goodies"
I have discovered roaming the internet.
The LIBSOFT archive maintained by Gordon Nicholson at the University of
Western Ontario has copies of my guide and the newsletters. You can obtain
copies of the files via anonymous FTP. Please use the archive outside of
normal business hours.
FTP hydra.uwo.ca
at the prompt: type user anonymous
at the password prompt: type user@site or guest
type cd libsoft
type get guide1.txt to transfer the file to your computer
type quit to exit
The guide is in two files: GUIDE1.TXT and GUIDE2.TXT. The second file
contains just my list of library connections (and goodies).
The newsletters are in the NET1.TXT - NET4.TXT files. The next newsletter
will be coming out shortly.
