JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
WLN, a nonprofit corporation headquartered in Lacey, WA is
seeking a "Library Technician 3" to join its professional
technical services staff. WLN's quality technical services and
outsourcing departments are experiencing rapid growth and are
looking to add an experienced, flexible, production-oriented,
highly skilled employee to capitalize on this opportunity.
The successful applicant will search and identify the WLN Online
system and other catalogs available via the Internet for
cataloging copy. The techs will also catalog materials using
close copy from the WLN Online System, source documents, Library
of Congress, Research Libraries Information Network, and other
Z39.50 platforms available via the Internet. Other duties may
include assigning Dewey Decimal or LC Classification numbers;
adding, modifying or deleting customer holdings, and preparing
statistical and quality control reports.
To qualify, the applicant should have a minimum of 2 years
library technical experience or an AAS degree in Library
technology and 1 year library experience. Experience in a
cataloging/technical services operation is desirable. Knowledge
of Windows, Windows based software applications, and MARC
bibliographic format are also required.
For 19 years, WLN has provided a broad range of innovative, high-
quality products and services to libraries of all types and sizes
throughout the US and around the world. These services include a
full-service online MARC bibliographic database (with
acquisitions, cataloging, and interlibrary loan subsystems and a
linked authority file), a CD-ROM version of the database, as well
as database preparation and authority control service (the WLN
MARC Record Service). WLN is a full level Internet service
provider.
WLN is offering a competetive salary ($1,800-$2,400 per month,
full-time), commensurate with experience and qualifications,
accompanied by an excellent, comprehensive benefits package.

Description:

Qualifications:

Type 40 wpm.
Knowledge of Windows and Windows based software applications
such as: Word and Excel.
Knowledge of MARC bibliographic format.
Attention to detail and excellent proofreading ability.
Ability to follow detailed instructions and work
independently.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a rapidly changing work
environment.
Desirable:
Word processing experience.

Department: Canada, Pacific Rim, Latin America (CPL) Zone
Reports to: Director of Business Development, Network Solutions
The Technical Support Manager's role is to manage the Technical Support
Department within SilverPlatter's CPL Zone. The Technical Support
Department will provide a technical and product support function for all
SilverPlatter databases, software and technology to distribution partners
and customers in the Canadian, Pacific Rim and Latin American regions.
Technical Support Department will provide pre-sales consultative services
to the region and will support activities related to existing and
prospective ERL sites and Internet based Partner Hosted Servers in the
region.
Major Responsibilities:
Provide technical support services to CPL distribution partners and Partner
Hosted Server (PHS) providers in an effort to help customers resolve
technical problems as completely and efficiently as possible. Ensure
effective measurement of customer satisfaction
Train and educate Regional Field Engineers, distribution partners and CPL
staff in the use of SilverPlatter software and databases.
Design and implement a technical support program for Internet based Partner
Hosted Server providers in the region.
Provide pre-sales consultative services to Regional Managers and
distributors, as well as occasional technology presentations to prospective
customers and to distribution partners.
Assist regional distributors and Internet based distributors in their
efforts to understand, adopt and ultimately install SilverPlatter
technology at their site or place of business.
Continue to obtain and update technical knowledge of computer hardware,
software, CD-ROM technology, and networking in a multi-platform
environment.
Communicate with internal staff, especially all technical support
counterparts worldwide in all SilverPlatter organizations to supply
distributor and customer feedback and suggestions for product
improvements/enhancements.
Effectively manage beta sites in the regions and support the introduction
of new releases of products and software.
Recruit, manage, train and develop additional CPL Zone technical staff as
the department expands..
Qualifications:
3 -5 years experience diagnosing evaluating, and resolving computer
hardware and software issues in Client/Server based networking
environments.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Working knowledge of
UNIX, Windows NT, CGI based applications and Wide Area Networking required.
Some international travel required. Previous management experience and
ability to communicate in Spanish is desired.
