ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR PUBLIC SERVICES
This senior level position is responsible for directing and managing all
resources and activities associated with the provision of access and
delivery of information services. Participates fully in the overall
administration of the IIT Libraries, including long-range planning,
program development and evaluation, budget formulation, and the
establishment of system-wide policies.
Responsible for developing new service models, programmatic elements of
public services, expanded use of information technology in reference and
information delivery services, designing and delivering enhanced
services to outside users, and strengthening links with services to
faculty, students, and researchers.
Reports to Director of Libraries. Supervises four librarians, six
full-time library technical assistants and 25-30 part-time student
assistants.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program and
substantial professional experience in public services in an academic or
research library utilizing traditional and new library systems and
techniques. Extensive knowledge of science or engineering reference
sources and collections, collection development practices and procedures
and library automated systems. Supervisory experience. Must demonstrate
strong organizational, planning, promotional skills. Must possess
participatory management, excellent communication, and interpersonal
skills, and the ability to interact effectively with colleagues, patrons
and other diverse groups and individuals. An advanced degree in science
or engineering is preferred.

NetLab and the acquisition, administration and planning
of projects. The aim of NetLab is to continue to occupy

Since NetLab started in July 1994 it has grown
considerably and is today working with exciting
developments within different projects in the area of
digital libraries and network based information
discovery and retrieval mainly in an Internet/WWW
environment. NetLab today have 10 employees (half
computer scientists/programmers half information
scientists/project librarians) and is engaged in a
