NETWORK ANALYST
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general direction of the Manager of Systems Services,
the incumbent will install, maintain, and troubleshoot network
servers and the interconnections between the servers and the
nearly 550 workstations within the Libraries. Duties will include
but are not limited to: pre-purchase evaluation and decision
making; purchasing; installation and configuration; training;
troubleshooting; and repair. The incumbent will create and
implement procedures for backing up network servers, and
maintaining services in cases of technical outages. In addition,
the person will be expected to design better, more efficient
methods of managing and controlling Library hardware and software
using network servers and to identify short and long term server
needs. Will participate with other Library Systems Office
personnel in strategic planning relating to Library systems
support. The incumbent will also interact with other computing
support units on campus, including Building Network
Administrators in the 21 buildings which house Library units, and
hardware and software vendors and service companies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years
professional experience in networked server administration.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with current microcomputer,
workstation, and networking technologies, microcomputer and
network software applications, and microcomputer and network
hardware. Extensive experience with Windows and Local and Wide
Area Networks including TCP/IP and Windows NT (or equivalent)
Network Operation Systems. Excellent communication and writing
skills. Strong service attitude and the ability to effectively
handle multiple priorities. Preferred: Library knowledge,
knowledge and experience with Windows NT workstation and server
products, familiarity with data retrieval tools and systems such
as CD-ROMs and online databases, experience with automated
workstation support software such as Microsoft SMS, experience
administering a Web server, experience with UNIX and Macintosh
operating systems, and experience supporting large publicly
accessible servers.
SALARY & TITLE:
Annual salary of $30,000 and upward, depending on education and
experience. A twelve month academic professional appointment as
Network Analyst.

The University of Pennsylvania Library System in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
is seeking an ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN for its School of Engineering Library.
SCOPE OF UNIT:
The Engineering Library is responsible for meeting the information needs
of the faculty and students of the School of Engineering and Applied
Science and of other members of the Penn community. The School
comprises 7 academic departments including Computer Science, currently
enrolls approximately 600 graduate students, 1200 undergraduates, 50
post-doctoral fellows and has 105 full-time faculty members. The
Library's collection of 75,000 volumes is housed in two separate
buildings and includes 800 current periodicals. The materials budget for
FY 97 is over $600,000. The Library has 2 professional librarians, 3
paraprofessionals, and 5 FTE student library workers.
BROAD FUNCTIONS:
Assists the Engineering Librarian in meeting the information needs of
the School and in the administration of the Library. Provides reference
service, teaches faculty and students to use information resources,
shares in collection development and departmental liaison
responsibilities. Serves as information systems liaison to the
Engineering and Science Libraries.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides pro-active onsite and remote reference service using both
electronic and traditional print resources. Creates web documentation and
contributes to the design of appropriate user interfaces for electronic
resources. Serves as liaison to a number of academic departments. Works
with faculty and the Librarians to assess the needs of the research and
instructional programs in these departments. Develops and implements
innovative and effective electronic services. Energetically contributes
to the creation of a dynamic teaching program in the Engineering and
Science Libraries. Produces user documentation. Develops collections in
a number of areas, working closely with faculty, and with other science
and engineering Librarians. Works with the Librarian to manage the
collections. Consults with faculty about appropriate replacement of
print collections with electronic resources. Serves as information
systems liaison to the Engineering and Science Libraries. Acts for the
Librarian in her absence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MLS from an ALA-accredited program. Academic background in Engineering
or a related science discipline strongly preferred. Experience in
on-line database searching, and an aptitude for teaching required.
Strong computing skills required. Strong interpersonal skills and
excellent written and verbal communication abilities essential. A public
service orientation and strong reference skills needed. Knowledge of
scientific research methods and familiarity with the changing information
and publishing environment in engineering and science needed.
SALARY REQUIREMENTS:
Appointment as Librarian I requires no previous experience, and has a
starting salary of $26,986 to $35,123. Appointment as Librarian II
requires 1 to 3 years of previous professional experience, and has a
starting salary of $29,664-38,677.

UALR invites applications for the position of Head,
Reference/Documents' Services, a faculty appointment
with rank, leading to tenure. The successful candidate
must demonstrate skill in both reference services and
bibliographic instruction. Also necessary will be knowledge
of print as well as electronic resources, plus a strong
commitment to patron services for undergraduates, graduate
students, faculty and administrators. Heavy emphasis is placed
upon experience with user education programs. This position
will provide dynamic leadership for a newly developing Library
Information Skills Training program.
REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited MLS degree plus minimum
of five years' general reference experience in academic libraries
or large public libraries. Second graduate degree desirable.
Night and weekend work in rotation. Must communicate well,
relate easily to patrons, and exhibit energy and enthusiasm for
the role. Supervisory experience highly desirable. Reports to
Assistant Director for Instructional and Public Services; supervises
a reference team of four professionals, plus a small staff of student
assistants. Must be very familiar with electronic systems such as
the Internet, CD-ROM networks, dial-up services, microcomputer
operating systems, OCLC, and First Search. Also helpful to know
a variety of instruction models and assessment techniques.
MINIMUM SALARY: $35,000 for 12-month appointment with
