Recently I've had several users of InfoPop (the TSR guide to the
Internet) report problems with IP locking up their machines--
particularly if they're using the Clarkson drivers...or sometimes
when using a PC comm program (e.g., Procomm) to dial into a VAX
or some other host that provides TELNET/ftp services.

Fortunately, I've also had reports from other users on a fix for the
problem...

If you've been experiencing lockups during cut % paste,
try starting Infopop with the /e switch. This loads InfoPop then
loads a second command processor and then executes your comm package.
When your comm program is done, everything (including IP) unloads.

For example, to use the Clarkson TELNET package (here I'm assuming
the software's in a CUTCP subdirectory on your PC):

C:\CUTCP>IP /e TELNET [return]

While you can put a command line argument after TELNET, I don't
recommend it. If you do (for example, a telnet address) the
program will exit when you've finished your link to the address
you gave.

To use with a comm package like Procomm:

C:\PCPLUS>IP /E PCPLUS [return]

This seems to minimize the likelihood of lock up when you cut &
paste a TELNET address to your underlying application. If you've
been having this problem and the /e switch doesn't solve it,
let me know (wallyg@fen1.gmu.edu).

Latest version of InfoPop (2.2) is available via anonymous ftp:

ftp gmuvax2.gmu.edu

username: anonymous
password: EnterYourEmailAddressHere
cd library
dir (to see what's available)
binary
get FileYouWantToGet (use the same case as the file's listing)
bye (signs you off gmuvax2)
