Serials Coordinator ( Review of applications date extended): The
University Libraries at Virginia Tech are seeking to fill the position of
Serials Coordinator in the Technical Services Department. The Serials
Coordinator will direct and manage all of the functions of the
Continuations Management Team which include the receipt, copy cataloging,
bibliographic maintenance, and binding of serials in an automated
environment. Responsible for planning, setting goals and priorities,
formulating policies, designing and monitoring workflow, allocating staff,
and providing leadership for the continuing development of serials
automation. The successful candidate will be familiar with current trends
in serials management and control, including computer applications and
national standards for bibliographic controls; have demonstrated experience
with OCLC and a local library cataloging system; be able to provide strong
leadership; and possess effective communication, interpersonal, and
problem-solving skills. Reports to the Head of Technical Services.
The Continuations Management Team consists of twelve staff and has a large
student wage budget. The team's responsibilities include check-in,
claiming, and binding of 18,000 continuing titles, and copy cataloging of
new and changed titles; and the receiving and cataloging of government
depository items. The VTLS library system is used for serials check-in,
and the library uses the USMARC standard for coded holdings.
Qualifications: Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA
accredited program required. The successful candidate should possess a
knowledge of current and national cataloging trends in an automated
environment; knowledge of current trends and issues in serials control;
demonstrated experience working with a bibliographical utility and an
integrated cataloging system, experience with computer applications such as
spread sheets and database management. The Serials Coordinator should have
supervisory and training experience. Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills. Preferred: Academic library experience;
participation in professional activities at the national and local level;
demonstrated problem solving skills, especially with workflow analysis of
technical services functions. SALARY: Twelve-month faculty appointment;
rank and salary dependent upon credentials with a minimum salary of
$28,000.

Collegiate Librarian Information Officer ( Business CLIO). Review date
extended for applications. The Collegiate Librarian Information Officer
(CLIO), a library faculty position offers faculty and students in the
Pamplin College of Business (for more information see
http://ugserver.cob.vt.edu/bushome.html) on-site, intradepartmental,
discipline-related consulting to expand their awareness and use of
information and technological resources, both internal and external to the
University.
The CLIO will work with the departments in the College to advance the use
of computing and information resources in research and teaching. The CLIO
operates with minimum onsite collections. Responsibilities include
assisting faculty with the use of the World Wide Web technology, offering
technical support for some general software used in the College, and
collaborating on the development of information literacy programs within
the curriculum.
The CLIO will report to the Head of User Services. The CLIO will
maintain two office locations, one in the Pamplin College of Business and
one in the main library. The CLIO will devote 50 percent of time to
central library services at the main library. This will entail assisting
the broader university community in the sciences by providing reference,
instructional, and collection development services.
The successful candidate should possess a working knowledge of accounting,
economics, finance, marketing, and management science in order to assist
faculty with the discipline-specific educational and research tools
available and to disseminate knowledge of these tools within the College.
The CLIO must have technical competencies and experience in the use of
networked information resources, be resourceful, demonstrate effective
instructional and communication skills, and have a strong client ethic.
Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school. Experience in
providing reference liaison work or academic consulting; knowledge of the
information needs of scholars and students in business fields.
Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, and implement effective programs
and services. Excellent interpersonal skills. Preferred: Baccalaureate
or advanced degree in a business discipline. Salary: Twelve-month faculty
appointment; rank and anticipated salary in $30,000's commensurate with
experience and credentials.

This position, located in the Research and Instruction Department
of the Evans Library at Florida Tech, provides reference service to
faculty, students, and other patrons; assists and instructs patrons in the
