LIBRARY RESEARCH SEMINAR I
Partners and Paradigms: Library Research in the
Information Age
F I N A L A N N O U N C E M E N T
The first national Library Research Seminar will
meet at Florida State University, Tallahassee,
Florida, Graduate School of Library and Information
Studies, November 1-2, 1996. Sponsors are
Council on Library Resources, Beta Phi Mu, Library
History Round Table (ALA), Library Research
Round Table (ALA), and OCLC.

The major goals of the research seminar are:
--to facilitate the development of research-based
knowledge for the library and information
profession;
--to encourage interdisciplinary discourse by
involving researchers from fields outside of library
and information studies;
--to promote networking by bringing together
practicing professionals and researchers
interested in exploring key issues within the field;
--to showcase the work of doctoral students in all
fields conducting research in subjects related to
library and information studies; and
--to explore new methodological approaches to
research.
The conference format will include three
distinguished invited speakers and 36 refereed
papers and panels. Topics include interdisciplinary
studies, methodological approaches, education
and theory building, user analysis,
internet/hypertext, school and public libraries,
academic libraries, and historical perspectives.
The Library Research Seminar Planning

General Information
Location: Conference activities will take place at
the Turnbull Conference Center, 555 W. Pensacola
Street on the campus of Florida State University.
Limited parking is available at the Center;
additional $3 daily parking is available directly
across the street at the Tallahassee-Leon County
Civic Center.
Registration: The registration fee includes two
continental breakfasts, two lunches, and two
dinners. Everyone is encouraged to register early.
A registration form must be submitted for each
registrant. A confirmation letter will be mailed to
each participant upon receipt of a registration form
and payment. Please make checks payable to
Florida State University. Purchase orders are
accepted, as well as Visa and MasterCard.
Registration materials will be available at your
accommodation site from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday,
October 31 and at the Turnbull Conference Center
from 8 to 9 a.m. on Friday, November 1.
Accommodations: On the weekend of the seminar,
hotel accommodations are very limited. A block of
rooms has been reserved at the Collegiate Village
Inn and the Killearn Country Club & Inn. We
recommend that you make your hotel reservations
now. Reservations should be made directly with the
hotel. You must identify your reservation as part of
the FSU Library Research Seminar to get the
special conference rate. This rate applies from
Thursday, October 31 to Sunday, November 3,
1996.
Collegiate Village Inn - 2121 W. Tennessee
Street, Tallahassee, FL 32304. Call (904)
576-6121 by October 1, 1996 to get the special
room rate of $50.00 per night plus tax. (Note: This
Inn is 10 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes
from the Turnbull Conference Center. Vans will
provide shuttle service twice daily from the Inn to
the Center.)
Killearn Country Club & Inn - 100 Tyron Circle,
Tallahassee, FL 32308. Call (904) 893-2186 by
October 1, 1996 to get the special room rate of
$59.00 per night plus tax. (Note: This Inn is 40
minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from the
Turnbull Conference Center. Vans will provide
shuttle service twice daily from the Inn to the
Center.)
Cancellation and Refund Policy: Should your plans
change, we will gladly refund registration fees that
are canceled at least 72 hours prior to the start of
the conference.
