Thanks to all who worked on the study of USMARC fields required to "catalog"
online catalogs. This raises the larger questions of whether and how to
represent a variety of externally available resources in the online catalog. At
what point to we reach "bibliographic overkill?" Assuming that we do list other
online catalogs in the online catalog or a more comprehensive information
system, I would like to suggest one small addition: software version or release
number. New software releases may offer significantly enhanced capabilities
and/or may have significant flaws. ("The large print giveth. The small print
taketh away."-Tom Waits) The release number could probably be included in the
file information or technical details note.
