FGCU is scheduled to open in fall 1997 with an enrollment of 2,500 as the
10th member of the State University System. A broad range of
undergraduate and selected master's programs will be offered, with an
emphasis on alternative teaching systems and technology. A state-of-the-
art electronic library is being designed as the heart of the University's
learning environment. All positions require a MLS from an accredited
institution and 3 years relevant library experience. Must possess
creativity, flexibility and initiative, and able to work in a team-based
management system. Demonstrated ability to develop and coordinate
library programs, and at least one year of hands-on experience using an
integrated library system, the Internet, WWW browsers. Appointment for
all positions will be made at a faculty rank and salary commensurate with
the candidate's experience on a multi-year appointment basis.
Arts & Sciences Librarian - #11179
Education Librarian - #11180
Responsible for collection development, reference, and library
instruction for an undergraduate program in arts and sciences. Analyzes
collections; writes and implements a collection development policy that
responds to the proposed curriculum in arts and sciences and/or
education; provides reference and research consultation services; designs
and delivers library instruction tailored to meet curriculum needs, and
faculty enrichment sessions on electronic resources; identifies
electronic resources and recommends purchases.
Business/Outreach Librarian - #11185
Primary business school subject specialist and main contact in providing
library services to the University's Distance Education programs,
students and faculty. Works with Business School in developing business
information resources in the school's five county service area. A Center
for Leadership and Innovation is planned jointly by the Business School
and Library. Develops collections, programs, and services that take
advantage of the latest in technology; serves as team leader responsible
for the initial planning and implementation of library services to
support distance education; participates in library public service
activities.
Technical Services Team Leader - #11136 (Reannouncement)
Responsible for technical services in an outsourcing environment,
including quality control of acquisitions and shelf-ready technical
processing by vendors. Trains/supervises technical processing activities
of staff; manages/monitors outsourcing activities; provides leadership
for the integration of bibliographic records into statewide NOTIS based
catalog; participates in the incorporation of electronic resources,
including journals, databases, and data files. Req: Detailed knowledge
of automated integrated library system (e.g., NOTIS, DRA). Knowledge of
bibliographic standards, authority control, database management, and
issues surrounding digital resources.
