     Dear Library folks:
The following information has been percolating through the 'net.
I don't believe that it has yet been posted to this listserv.
Please share with those who may be interested in protecting the
privacy of their personal data. (If this is even possible, these
     days!) Kate Wakefield - wake@wln.com

 LEXIS-NEXIS P-Trax Database WARNING:
Your name, social security number, current address, previous
addresses, mother's maiden name, birth date and other personal
information are now available to anyone with a credit card through a
new Lexis database called P-Trax. As I am sure you are aware, this
information could be used to commit credit card fraud or otherwise allow
someone else to use your identity.

For Lexis response to this post go to:

LEXIS-NEXIS has been swamped with requests to remove personal data from
this database (thanks to the wonders of electronic communication, no
doubt). It is no longer possible to remove your name from the database
simply by calling the LEXIS-NEXIS phone number.

To remove your name from the P-trax database, you must make a request
in writing. You can either mail or fax this in:
fax: (513) 865-1930, or surface mail to:
         LEXIS-NEXIS
         P.O. Box 933
         Dayton, Ohio 45401-0933

If you would like to register any additional comment against this
product, the product manager is Andrew Bleh (rhymes with "Play").
He can be reached at the LEXIS-NEXIS toll-free number: 800-543-6862.
Ask for extension 3385. According to Lexis, the manager responsible
is Bill Fister at extension 1364.
