This is in response to Australian Craig Boaden's request for English -
French translation software. I am replying to the list as I think it
might be of general or at least Francophile/phobe interest.
Globalink Co. -- http://www.globalink.com -- still is the very best
which I have found for this sort of thing, in French and increasingly
in other languages. Not only are their system designs complete and user
- friendly, but they are technically up to date -- W95, W3, all the
latest platforms and approaches and buzzwords -- and very innovative.
They also take the very responsible approach that machine translation
is not the standalone answer for human language translation: their
products are designed to supplement rather than substitute for your
brain -- which seems to be the only really practical approach to this
and other AI developed so far, no matter what hype you might hear from
their competitors.
Alison Sutherland at the Globalink firm is particularly knowledgeable
(speaks several languages including Brooklynese) and helpful.
