Well, I have kept quiet about this for several weeks, in my own attempt
to keep things from developing into a personal flame war.
However, it seems obvious that any note starting with something like:
"Why do we have to put up with. . ."
and continuing with comments that say something like:
"Getting an anouncment of a new list I am not interested in is spam."
Well. . .those two pretty much by themselves mean the note is a flame,
whether the author denies it or not.
In addition, to go on to several fallacious arguments that amount to
no more than a personal [ad hominem and reductio ad absurdum] attack
fan the flames even more.
I trust that not naming the flaming individual is good netiquette,
since the last time I did this on PACS it apparently cost the person
quite a bit of social and professional esteem.
For those of you who remember, this should be enough, for those who
don't, don't bother, please.
And no, I wasn't on the Internet a century ago. . .
