Subject: Position: Library Director, Manhattanville College
Manhattanville College invites applications and nominations for the
position of Director of the Library. The College seeks a creative leader
to build upon traditional strengths in innovative ways that integrate the
printed collection with new and evolving electronic resources. The
Director reports directly to the Provost.
A new, targeted fund raising effort to strengthen the library at
Manhattanville has enjoyed early success. The library houses a
collection exceeding a quarter of a million volumes, 932 serial and
newspaper subscriptions, and 130,000 microform titles. The library has
an active interlibrary loan program, participates in a variety of local
consortia, enjoys a growing electronic presence, and offers instructional
courses for credit.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS required, Ph.D. preferred;
substantial library management experience with demonstrated leadership
skills; and record of participation in fund raising and grant writing.
We look for abilities to: develop a strategic plan for the library;
integrate new information technologies into library services and
teaching; manage budget and staff; and use electronic resources in the
college environment.
Manhattanville College, founded in 1841, is a selective liberal arts
college with several master's programs. It is located in Westchester
County, New York, on a beautiful campus about thirty minutes north of New
York City. The College enrolls approximately 800 undergraduates and a
similar number of graduate students.
Applicants are asked to send a current curriculum vita, a cover letter of
interest, and the names of at least three people who will serve as
references. Also desirable would be a statement by candidates which
addresses: the role of technology in the future of small college
libraries; the particular role of the library at a liberal arts college;
a description of effective managerial style; and salary history and
expectations.
The review of applications will begin August 1 and will continue until
the position is filled. It is hoped that the new Director would assume
responsibilities by December 1, 1996.
