ASSISTANT BIBLIOGRAPHIC CONTROL SERVICES LIBRARIAN

Dartmouth College Library seeks an experienced catalog librarian to serve as
Assistant Bibliographic Control Services Librarian.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Bibliographic Control Services Librarian,
the incumbent will catalog and manage cataloging processes for a wide variety
of materials in many languages, subjects, and formats, with a special emphasis
on electronic resources, both remotely accessed (WWW) and locally maintained.
Ensures that the catalog provides an accurate representation of all electronic
library resources, including indexes, reference sources, full-text monographs
and journals, and research databases, available via the Dartmouth College
Information System or other means. Assists with the development and
implementation of policies and procedures for bibliographic and authority
control for the library. Participates in planning and decision making for the
department, and, through service on library committees, in a variety of other
library operations.
Dartmouth College is an innovative, technologically sophisticated environment
with extensive local computing resources. Candidates should be familiar with
the use of a local library system and of networked personal computers.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS. Minimum of 3 years post-MLS cataloging
experience in an academic or research library, using OCLC and/or RLIN, AACR2R,
and the MARC formats. Experience cataloging computer files. Reading knowledge
of two foreign languages. Familiarity with current trends in cataloging,
especially those related to electronic information resources. Demonstrated
team-based communication skills, as well as supervisory, interpersonal, and
written communication skills. In addition, knowledge of one or more of the
following is highly desirable: serials cataloging, music and non-book formats
cataloging, online authority control, Innopac, HTML.
SALARY & BENEFITS: Rank and salary commensurate with experience and
qualifications, with a minimum salary of $29,000 for Librarian I and $31,000
for Librarian II; full benefits package including 22 vacation days,
comprehensive health insurance, TIAA/CREF, and relocation assistance.
