Position Title: Systems and Automation Librarian
Description: The Health Sciences Library, University of Maryland at
Baltimore is seeking a service and results oriented individual with strong
analytical and interpersonal skills for the position of Systems and
Automation Librarian. This position is one of three which reports to the
Assistant Director of Systems Research, Development and Services and
provides technical support to library staff in the areas of computing
hardware, software and telecommunications.
Qualifications: Required: ALA accredited MLS and 1 year experience working
with MS Windows in a networked environment. Desirable: Good interpersonal
skills; experience with procedures documentation; project management or
notable contributions to project tasks, or chairing committees. Working
knowledge of UNIX, Visual Basic, PERL, MAC Systems 7 or higher, Windows '95,
TCP/IP, Novell 3.11 or 3.12, ethernet, Microsoft NT, Experience with DRA
library automation system; Experience with CD-ROM databases, Wordperfect, C
or C++, Java, HTML and Internet interfaces such as Netscape.
Salary/Benefits: Salary negotiable with minimum of $30,000. UMA B offers an

Acquisitions Librarian. The University Libraries at Virginia Tech
announces a search for an Acquisitions Librarian, a library faculty
position in the Technical Services Department. This position oversees
acquisitions of all library materials, with primary responsibilities for
developing Requests-For- Proposal and other vendor negotiations; monitors
contracts and vendor performance, including approval and blanket orders.
Responsible for developing, implementing, and reviewing policies and
procedures; investigating technologies aimed at improving services,
increasing productivity and enhancing the acquisitions workflow. Authorizes
payment of invoices and compliance with all state and university
regulations and requirements regarding purchases and contractual
agreements. The Acquisitions Librarian reports to the Head of the
Technical Services Department.
Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school. The successful
candidate should show evidence of initiative, flexibility and the potential
to excel in a rapidly changing library environment; demonstrated knowledge
of the latest technology related to all technical services processes;
ability to work in a team and collaborative environment and have a broad
understanding of acquisition processes as they relate to collection
management, cataloging, and serial maintenance. Knowledge of traditional
print and electronic industries.. Excellent communication and
interpersonal skills. Preferred: two or more years of academic library
experience; experience with processes analysis.

benefits, 24 days annual leave. Salary: Twelve-month faculty
appointment; rank and salary dependent upon credentials and experience with
