USMARC Fields and Data Elements Part 2 of 2.

520=Summary, Abstract, Annotation, Scope, Etc. Note.
        Statement of purpose from the library. Or: cite well
        established authority on library collection like: Miller, Subject
        Collections 6th ed., 1985. Based on self evaluation of libraries.
        Or Bonnie, Nelson. A Guide to Published Library Catalogs
        (1982). Or Directory of Special Libraries and Information
        Centers.

[521]= Target Audience Note.
        General Research Lib.
        Univ. & College Lib.
        Professional School Lib.
        Ecclesiastical Lib.
        Corporate Lib.
        Public Lib.
        School lib.

        or by levels:
        1.  Comprehensive Level.
        2.  Research Level.
        3.  Study Level
        4.  Basic Level.
        5.  Minimal Level.

530=Additional Physical Form Available Note.
        Print, cd-rom, magnetic tape...and information on their vendors.

[531]=Rates, cost of use. (See 541).
        {not in blue book}

[538]=Technical Details Note.
        Host information.
        Terminal Emulation Supported.
        Communication protocol.
        Special protocols: X.500, Z39.50.
        MARBI suggests "source machine"?

540=Terms Governing Use and Reproduction Note.

???[541]=Immediate Source of Acquisition Note.
        Eligibility, fees, procedure note. (See 531).
        MARBI claims 541 is "Source of Acquisition" and puts here
        network address.

[546]=Language = 041.

[556]=Information about documentation note.

565=Case File Characteristic Note. Number of variables, names, unit of
        analysis, filing schem.

567=Methodology Note.
        IR method used in the online catalog: Boolian, Probability,
        Vector process etc.

584=Accumulation and Frequency Use.
        Present some statistics, for example those available by the
        command "SHOW STAT" in Melvyl.

586=Awards.

[590]=Local notes.
        Network access instruction for Telnet, Username, Password and,
        Terminal emulation (also in 538) and logoff procedure.

610=Corporate Subject Heading.

650=Topical Subject Headings.
        In the MARC record there are few (from one to fifteen and
        sometime more) SHs per item. We can apply analog set of
        restrictions to an online catalog and decide upon a certain
        number of SH per online catalog.

651=Geographic subject heading.
        Use this for the location of the collection so that a user can
        specify a desired physical location in hierarchical way. This will
        enable the user to do his/her search in geographically defined
        areas. The user will be able to select all the online catalogs in
        Japan or in Tokyo etc.

[653]=MARBI relates to this field as "Index Term". From the examples
        in "Discussion Paper 54" it is not clear what are the guidelines
        for filling this field.
