The Indiana Chapter of the ASIS presents
DATABASE ACCESS: CD-ROM LAN, OPAC OR BOTH?
Dinner meeting, Thursday Sept. 3rd, 1992
What's the best way to provide library users with database
access? Some libraries have set up CD-ROM networks; others
prefer to set up separate databases in combination with their
OPAC. Is there a "best" way to provide the information? What
are the strengths and weaknesses of each approach?
Indiana State University has used both approaches. This meeting
will feature a panel discussion with several ISU representatives:
Pat Ensor, Coordinator of Electronic Information
Services, has authored numerous articles on online
information and CD-ROMS. She is also the author of CD-
ROM Research Collections and CD-ROM Periodical Index.
This will be Pat's final public appearance in Indiana
before she assumes new duties at the University of
Houston.
Steve Hardin, Reference/Technical Services Librarian,
has also written on CD-ROMs and database access.
Paul Asay, Automation Research Associate, helps
maintain ISU's MDAS databases on its mainframe
computer.
Cost: ASIS Members $16.00, ASIS student members $8.00, non-
members $18.00.
Location: The Airport Hilton Inn, right next to the Indianapolis
International Airport. Take the airport exit from I-465 in the
southwest side of Indianapolis.
Schedule: Social Time (cash bar) 5:45 p.m.; Dinner and Program:
6:30 p.m.
