Just for interests sake, I tried running the same Maple task on both
a DECstation 3100 (Alewife) and the RS/6000 220h.
On the 3100 much the same thing happened as on the maxine, it gave
"not enough core" messages if you tried to run anything from the xterm.
It also seems to have hung up either the window manager or the X server.
Its still hung, so you are welcome to go and take a look at it.
On the RS/6000, at some point in time the Maple process simply died. I
didn't see any error messages and nothing was sent to the console window.
Its worked fine thereafter, I ran programs from the xterm without any problem.
In case anybody is curious, here is the Maple code:
