CANNES, France (Reuter) - Bathers in the French Riviera
resort of Cannes were captivated -- and more -- when two
curvaceous 20-year-olds took off the tops and bottoms of their
bikinis to shower in full view of the public on the beach.
What ogling onlookers did not realize was that a third young
woman was taking advantage of the rapt attention directed at her
friends to rifle through unguarded beach bags, taking wallets
and valuables.
But a jaded policeman was not taken in by the ploy and the
trio -- Florence, Christelle and Nathalie -- were arrested
Wednesday. They were released later in the day to await trial,
police said.

MARACAIBO, Venezuela (Reuter) - A lioness attacked and
mauled a Venezuelan youth who had hopped into her pen to answer
a call of nature.
``I had my trousers around my knees when I heard some
growling and saw this ferocious animal hurling itself on top of
me,'' 19-year-old Alexander Perez said from his hospital bed in
this western Venezuelan city.
Perez wrestled Tarzan-style with the lioness, which sank its
claws and teeth into his head and torso ``while I just tried to
get it off me so I could pull up my trousers.''
But he escaped to tell the tale when a quick-thinking friend
used a brick to knock out the lioness.
Perez was badly wounded, but well enough to tell a local
newspaper how the attack affected his diarrhoea.
``It disappeared as if by magic!''
