RULES 
of the
HARLESTONE SOCIETY
for
MAKING GOOD THE LOSS OF PIGS

Established 1853  Rules Revised 1876

1. No Member can receive any money till he has produced a Bill of Cost of 
the Pig he has lost.

2. Every Member shall receive his money within 14 days of the loss of his pig.

3 Each Member shall pay Three Shillings and Sixpence entrance, also Sixpence 
the first Monday in May and November.  If he exceeded fourteen days he shall 
pay a Penny per day for the remainder of the month, and if he does no pay 
then, to be excluded from the Society.

4. If a Pig die within a month after it was bought, the owner is to lose its 
keep.  If a Pig die after it has belonged to a Member more than a month the 
owner is to receive ten shillings per score.

5. Any Member keeping more than one Pig is to insure all, or not receive any 
benefit from the Society.

6. Any Member whose Pig is Ill is to give immediate notice to one of more of 
the Committee.

7. If a Member buy a Pig which shall be proved was Ill when he bought it, he 
shall not receive any benefit from the Society for its loss.

8. The affairs of this Society shall be managed by a Committee of Members.

9. Any person wishing to join the society must give twenty-four days' notice
to the Secretaries, to whom all monies must be paid.

10. Any Person wishing to join the Society is to pay double the Contribution to
what the present Members pay for two years.

11. No Pigs are allowed to be entered for breeding purposes by any Member.

12. Any Member who enters more than one Pig is to pay One Shilling for each 
extra Pig.  Each Member is to produce his Bill of the extra Pig to the 
Secretary when he insures it.

13. Contributions of Members shall be increased whenever necessary to prevent 
the funds of the Society falling below the sum of 50 [pounds sterling].

14. The Annual Meeting is to be held on the second Thursday in February.
