This is, alas, just a Hack Legend.  It is told yearly at the
Spelunker's Tours to incoming frosh.  Brian Leibowitz, the author of
the MIT Hack Book "The Institute for Hacks, TomFoolery and Pranks",
has tried to track this down, but has never found any Thesis that
corresponds with this story.  Sorry.

Anyone interesting in a course 9 Thesis?  I'm sure we can try to
prove this theory. :-)
