Oh, come on! It's known that Google Groups is now adding empty lines
in replies for no discernable reason. Since I don't use it, I don't
know whether it can be avoided, and if so, how. But mere unnecessary
whitespace, while making it a bit more tedious to read, is hardly
serious if done once.
As for whether it should have been posted here: it's not like there's
a crushing flood of traffic here, it was on-topic for Perl, it was
short, it's not like Perl is exploding in usage where you can't walk
down the street without tripping over a recruiter.
I think both Charlton and you were unjustifiably and cruelly harsh.
