Wouldn't GnuPlot help? You can easily write a small wrapper in perl to 
drive it.

Chart::Gnuplot exists on CPAN (but I've never used it). Speaking of
CPAN: I couldn't find Chart::Composite on search.cpan.org. Where does
that module come from?

I have, and wouldn't really recommend it.  Learning the API it exposes 
doesn't seem to be any easier than just learning gnuplot itself.
